José Aquiles Baesso Grimoni received the Ph.D. (1994), M. Sc. (1988) and B. Sc. (1980) degrees from Universidade de São Paulo (USP), and his research fields are power systems protection, modeling and simulation, automation and smart grids. Since 1989 Prof. José Aquiles has been Associate Professor at Escola Politécnica from USP, and he has been involved in under graduation and graduation teaching and supervision activities. Nowadays, Prof. José Aquiles supervise eight graduate students(master and phd) and four undergraduate students that develop research activities related to his research fields. Since 2012 José Aquiles have been as under–graduate electric energy engineering course coordinator of Escola Politécnica da USP.
Since 1989 Prof. José Aquiles have been working at the Electrical Energy Research Group of the Electric Energy and Automation Department of Escola Politécnica da USP, under the coordination of Associate Professor Marco Antonio Saidel. During these years Prof. José Aquiles has been involved in sixteen Research & Development projects funded by Brazilian government agencies as well as generation, transmission and distribution companies. These projects were mainly related to: substation equipment monitoring; hybrid and electric vehicles mobility and the impact in the electric network; distributed generation with photovoltaic systems.
Prof. José Aquiles was vice-director (2003 to 2007) and director (2007 to 2011) of the Instituto de Eletrotecnica e Energia da USP, that is a research institute that works with certification of electrical power systems components and with planning of energy systems and renewable energies technologies. Since 2015 had been as coordinator of Energy and Water conservation University of São Paulo Program that supervision and management of the electric energy and water consumption of all the seven campi of University of São Paulo, In 200 worked in the team that did the chapter of energy in the Inventory of Greenhouse Gases of the City of São Paulo between 2010 and 2015.
